An Evening of Ecstatic Chant and Dance with Tom Lena & Shakti

August 9, 2014, 7:00pm

Bhava Yoga Brattleboro

Please join us for an evening of heart-opening ecstatic chant and dance! Kirtan, call-and-response chanting in Sanskrit, the ancient language of Yoga, gives us the opportunity both to detach from the thoughts and worries we carry around and to allow the joy of the heart to dance out loud. A musician and Bhakti poet, Tom Lena (Tamal Krishna das) creates and offers devotional songs that nourish us integrally with moods ranging from prayerful to celebratory. Having accompanied many names in the Yoga music genre, including American chant masters such as Shubalananda, Gaura Vani, Girish, Temple Bhajan Band, and Jaya Lakshmi, Tom's ground-breaking Cd, "OM @ Club Passim" expresses his grass-roots journey and belief that there are no hard and fast rules about chanting. Shakti Rowan has been dancing and singing around the fires of devotion most of her life. Raised in an earth based spiritual tradition, Shakti was steeped in the joys of living in a community that celebrated and worshipped through playing live music, dancing together and singing the names of the divine in devotion. In recent years Shakti has studied with Sufi’s and learned the art of sacred circle dancing and a meditative practice called Zikir. Shakti now practices singing Mantras and sharing Kirtan in the Yoga community with her Beloved partner Tom Lena. Featuring special surprise musical guests: Terry Landis ~ vocals Owen Landis ~ percussion Ezra Landis ~ guitar Danny Solomon ~ bass For more information on Tom and Shakti’s music, workshops, and tours, please visit his website: www.tomlenamusic.com and www.shaktirowan.com Admission $15. Join Tom & Shakti early for Kitchari at 6pm! All are welcome. www.bhavayoga.com
